Background

An educational institution had a number of librarians who were required to deliver software training to academics and students using an interactive white board and practice sessions on PCs.

Train the Trainer training was chosen to address the following issues:

- Many of the participants had not been asked to train groups before and many also lacked confidence in their ability to design and deliver group training sessions.

- Their target audience was very varied with some participants having more understanding and knowledge than others, which proved challenging when trying to design and deliver material suitable for all levels.

LCP was chosen to run the ‘Train the Trainer’ programme due to experience of delivering a number of these sessions to professionals in a variety of sectors including higher education.

Outcomes

The workshop was successful in achieving its aims and in particular the results were:

- All of the participants marked the programme as ‘excellent ‘ on the end of course evaluation and stated that they felt more confident to design and deliver the training

- The sponsor of the programme was delighted:
“All the feedback received has been very positive, and I know the delegates have been given plenty ideas to help in their delivery of workshops and to improve their confidence.”

- A second workshop took place a year later for those who were new to the organisation or hadn’t been able to attend the first one

- Peer support improved with the librarians helping each other with the sessions

- The trainers received improved feedback from their own participants
